Send To ~WRD0005.doc

I have an end-user who uses Sent To (i.e., File\Send To\Mail Recipient (as
attachment)) in Word 2003. The attached file will display as ~WRD005.doc
regardless of what the original file name is. I have thought of this as
template file issue by deleting normal.dot. It did not resolve the issue.
Please advise. Thank you.

The user attached the "ownership" file, this means they tried to attach a
Word file that was still open, that itself can cause problems, or they have
another problem with Word not deleting these files automatically upon
AppClose.
The ~$ file is an "owner" file that Word creates for each Word document you
open. It is normal behaviour for Word, and you can't stop Word from doing it.

creates temporary files" for more information. But you can stop Windows from
displaying the temporary files by starting Windows Explorer or My Computer
and clicking on Tools | Folder Options | View tab | select the "Do not show
hidden files and folders" radio button | OK.

Everything you've said is correct. However...

If I understand the OP correctly, the problem is not that the user is
attaching a temp file to an email and the OP is confused about what this file
is and where it came from. Rather it's that when using the "File | Send To ->
Mail Recipient (as Attachment)" functionality within Word, Word is *not*
attaching the open document; it's attaching the temp file instead.

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to this problem, but I thought I'd
post anyway on the off chance that someone who does have the answer will
notice and lend a hand.

Gordon, thanks for the comment, you are right and after sending the reply I
re-read the posting and came to the same conclusion and am looking into this
- without much success :-(
