Sending a warning when nearing deadline

Is there a way for Microsoft Project 2003 to be able to send a warning out
for a task that is nearing its deadline and has not been completed? Ideally,
it would send out a color coded warning based on its importance.

This would require some sort of custom coding. But you can set up a formula
to set a flag within the project plan itself without any coding required.

The manager of the project can do the following to get a generic warning
that a task is nearing its deadline:

1. Log into PWA
2. Click the "Alert me about my resources on tasks and status report" link
in the sidepane of the Home page
3. Select the "Alert resources ___ days their tasks are due" option and
specify the number of days
4. Select the "e-mail me only" option for that alert
5. Click the Save Changes button

Please note that the above process will only give you a generic Project
Server message. If you want color coding by project importance, that will
require custom development, since that functionality is not available by
default in Project Server. Hope this helps.
