Sending an attachment within Word

I'm trying to send a document as an attachment. I'm using
Outlook 2001 in Classic mood. The "Mail Recipient"
within the "Send To" command is grayed out. It isn't
grayed out when Entourage (native to OS X) is selected.
Does this feature only work with email clients native to
OS X? Thanks!
