In Word for Windows I can use the "send to" command and copy a document to an external hard drive.
In w
Word for Mac there is no such command and it is cumbersome to copy its file.
Thanks

The Send To command is still there in Word 2008. It's simply not
configurable the way it is on the PC.

On the Mac, all "file" operations are expected to be done from the Finder,
and once you are in the Finder, it's a lot quicker and easier to simply drag
the file to the place you want.

However, the Finder does have a "Move to Trash" option on the right-click,
and I suspect you could configure that. You may find the following link
entertaining: http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/docs/customization/

Hope this helps

Hi Alan -

What am I missing in your query? I'm understanding that:

A- You are working with a document in Word,
B- You want a copy of that file to be stored in an a different location

What's wrong with File> Save As?

Besides, neither Word 2003 [File> Send To] nor Word 2007 [Office Button>
Send] have any such command... The commands there all pertain to sending a
copy as email, fax, or to PowerPoint - not to saving a copy of the file as a
Word document to another local device.

No offense, but I'm going to guess that you're confusing your terminology
here :) I'm further guessing that you *are* using Save As but that you're
unable to select the location of your choice. If I'm correct, it's because
you need to click the the little button to the right of the Save As: file
naming field to expand the Save As dialog box. Once you do you will have
access to any local or remote devices available to your system.

[BTW - That's a Mac OS convention you'll encounter in the Save As dialog of
virtually *any* program.]
