Sending E-mail from Word

Only just realised I can do this as have been using Outlook Express pretty
well exclusively other than when using right click and 'send to'. In most
locations right click/send-to does go the OE Outbox, but in Word this seems
to send documents instantly, bypassing the Outbox of OE, but appearing in
Sent Items as per normal. Can't see any settings in Word to make e-mail go
to Outbox first. Are there any?

This should depend on your OE settings. If you have "Send messages
immediately" checked on the Send tab of Tools | Options in OE, then you
should get the result you describe. If not, the message should be sent to
the Outbox. Although I confess I have used only the File | Send To | Mail
Recipient and Send To | Mail Recipient (as Attachment) options in Word (in
both of which cases I get the file sent to the Outbox), I don't see how
using the E-mail button (which just adds an email header to the current
document) would be any different from File | Send To | Mail Recipient.

I don't see why it should be different either, which is why I asked.

Have just tried again thus:

Copy and paste your message into Word;
Select 'File/Send To/ Mail Recipient.

E mail panel comes up, but note there is no conventional 'Send' button: only
a 'Send a Copy' button and no apparent way to add a different one.

As soon as you hit 'Send a Copy' it's gone with no reference to the OE
settings other than turning up in the Sent Items folder.

Try it yourself and get back to me.

Suzanne,

Any ideas for this error:

I have several mailmerge docs set up which I use often and which worked
fine. I'm now trying to set up another, and when I do the merge, the
messages appear on screen - ie I see the names cycle through in the email -
but then they disappear - nothing in outbox, or elsewhere as far as I can
see.

My "old" mailmerge emails don't do that - they just appear in a list in the
outbox - good as gold. Using Outlook

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have no experience with Outlook, which I gather may work differently from
Outlook Express. I also have no experience with merging to email.

Have you tried going off line (either by selecting work offline in OE or
Outlook, or disabling the internet connection temporarily) while doing the
merge? Does it then give you the option of going back online when you try
to send it, and does it then appear in your outbox if you don't go on line
when it asks? I have no experience of mail merge, but going off line got
around our problem which started this thread.

Hi Steve,

Nope that didn't work either.

Ah well, it was just a thought. Hope you find someone more familiar with
mail merge to help you out.

Good luck,
SteveH
