Sending email from Word locks up Word and Outlook

I have had this problem using Office 2000 and Office 2003. When I use Word
as an email editor and I am responding to an email, Word will occasionally
freeze up when I click on the Send button. Checking the task manager Word
will be using all of the CPU. I can leave and take a long lunch and it is
still hung up. I can end Word (either clicking on the X icon in the top
right or through the task manager). It will say that Word is not responding
and I tell it to close it. Outlook is hung during this entire process and I
must use the task manager to close Outlook. It generally appears to happen
most when I receive an email from our exchange server while editing the
email.

It seem to me like Word and Outlook opened a communications channel then
lost contact with each other? Can anyone help?

After rigorous testing with the editor and also without the editor to send a
template to Outlook (using Microsoft Word to edit option as checked). We
find that Outlook also crashes/freezes while trying to forward.

We also edited the template by our web designer to ensure that the HTML tags
in the template are all correct. After doing so, we sent the template via an
external email account (not using the HTML editor from our system) and upon
receiving the template and to forward it. It still crashes.

We have spent considerable time in researching and we found that this seems
to be a known issue in Outlook while using the Microsoft Word to edit option
checked.

Yes, Please help...

If anyone knows of a patch or fix, we are most intersted too!
