Sending Email-Outlook 2003 Error

Everytime I try to send an email/reply/forward to someone outside my contact
list I get the following message:

550 not local host nortel.com, not a gateway

Essentially, I cannot send any outgoing emails. I checked my settings,
under Tools: It is set to "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication" and "Use same settings as my incoming mail server."

I tried to fix the problem with regular Microsoft Help, but that has not
helped. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

What is the name of the configured mail server? I just checked 'nortel.com',
and it does not answer on the usual message submission ports.

A '550' error is usually a relay error, and means that you are attempting to
use an SMTP message submission server that you are not authorized to use. If
you attempt to use your ISP SMTP message submission server from an IP
connection outside of your ISP IP network, that is the same as "not
authorized", if your ISP uses a source IP address for authentication.

Hi I am having that kind of probelm as well, my error messgae is 0x8004210B.
All my seetings are coming up ok, but won't send a test email. This was
working ok upto Christmas Eve.
Can anyone help.

Your server name is blank. Full, verbose error message is better because the
missing bits (which you omitted by omitting the full error message) often
have clues to specific fixes. Unless you are using the same service as the
OP, your issue is unlikely to be "the same". And, because you both posted
using a web browser, I can't even guess at who your provider is.

Repost your question, as a new post, not in response to this, and include
all the details in the error message, except for the user name parts of
email addresses; domain part is okay. I usually post email addresses thus:

%User_ID%@pacbell.net

....Or whatever the actual domain name is.
