I usually send a monthly newsletter to my clients using my aol account. I
have it set up so that the incoming mail server is pop.aim.com and the
outgoing mail server is smtp.aim.com BUT, this month all of a sudden I'm not
able to send outgoing mail. It has worked without issue up until now. I'm
trying to figure out if it's an issue with Outlook or AOL. If you find out,
please share the information as I would like to get back in touch with my
client base.

Thank You, Thank You!!! The problem I was having is that my port number in
the outgoing smtp box needed to be changed from the default 25 to 587. I
don't know why it only started to be a problem this month, but I am glad that
it's all fixed now!!

Your ISP may have recently started blocking Port: 25 for all outgoing mail
servers except theirs. I would not doubt in the near future that they will also
require you to set the Outgoing Mail Port, to something other than the default
Port: 25 setting. Comcast, has been moving that way recently.

servers except theirs. I would not doubt in the near future that they will also
require you to set the Outgoing Mail Port, to something other than the default
Port: 25 setting. Comcast, has been moving that way recently.

AT&T has blocked outbound port 25 since before they were bought by SBC. And
SBC initiated their own outbound port 25 blocking in 2005. More recently, as
a Yahoo! partner, using Yahoo! mail servers, they've moved to requiring use
of port 465 w/SSL for message submission.

In the last two, or three years, all the relevant RFCs were updated to make
use of other than port 25 for message submission preferred.
