sending emails by the state catagory

I have about 1,700 email addrerss. I need to send out emails by the state
they live in. I can't seam to do this. One way if possible, if i can change
the display name to state in the select contacts box. Any suggestions?

Display the Contacts in a table view. Right-click the State fiel
header and choose Group By This Field. Select all the entries in th
group and click Actions>New Message to Contact

Or instead of New Message to Contact, use Tools | Mail Merge
