Sending emails that are not there

I have recently changed my ISP and changed my connection from a dial-up to
broadband (DSL). Consequently, I can no longer send through my old account,
although I can still receive ( I have left it active while all my contacts
get used to the new email address). However, although I have configured
Outlook not to send through my old account (Tiscali), and now redirect all
outgoing mail through my broadband (Virgin) account, everytime I click on
Send & Receive, Outlook (XP or 2002) attempts to send 15 messages through my
Tiscali account, despite the fact that these 15 emails are not in my Outbox
or anywhere else on the system, as far as I can tell.

I have tried all the 'automatic' fixes I can think of, including
reinstalling Outlook and loading all updates, both specific Outlook and
general Office XP, but I am still getting this problem.

Please, could anyone suggest a solution to this problem? I look forward to
all pertinent suggestions.
