Sending faxes in MSWord

Hi. I have a word document that I would like to fax to several fax
numbers. The fax numbers are stored in an excel document. How can I
send all the faxes to the numbers directly from my computers without
have to retype each number individually? THanks!

You need to tell us quite a lot more about your computer before we can
answer.

We need to know the type and version of your operating system, your fax
program, and Word.

Cheers

I am using a Mac G5 Dual Processor 10.3.9. I am using a Brother MFC
420CN to fax.

OK, so I assume you can "Print" to the Fax?

In which case, you could simply create a normal data merge as describe in
the Word Help.

However, you must first discover how to specify the fax number. I assume
that the Brother software pops up a dialog box that prompts for the Fax
Number when you print to the fax?

You need to ask Brother how to programmatically enter the fax number into
tat dialog. Because it's a "Print" dialog, Word cannot reach it. All
printing in OS X is done by the Operating System and the Printer Driver ‹
Word has no control over that part of the software.

But AppleScript does. If Brother can tell you how to specify the fax number
in AppleScript, we can get you the rest of the way. Sorry, but only Brother
will know: it will be entirely specific to the driver of the printer you are
using.

Hope this helps

Lets make sure we are talking about the same thing here. I know how
to fax from my computer, but what I want to figure out is how to fax
to multiple numbers that are already stored in excel. The long way
would be to enter each name and fax number into the address book, but
there are about 1,500 numbers. So Im looking to see if MSWord can be
set up to send faxes to the numbers in the Excel document. Does this
make sense?

Which address book? If you mean the Entourage address book, then you can
import the spreadsheet into it.

If your Fax software will send from an Entourage contact, then it is, as I
said, a conventional data-merge from Word using he Entourage address book as
the data source.

Otherwise, my original suggestion stands: you have to feed the fax numbers
from the spreadsheet into the Fax software using AppleScript.
