Sending files as printouts to onenote

M

mirgomez

For some reason I cannot send files as printouts to onenote. I can not
insert a file as a printout or send it to one note. The option is there
under the insert menu but is gray and unavailable to select. In addition,
"Send to One Note" is not a printer option. Please Help.

Thanks

What version of OneNote are you using? What operating system?
32-bit or 64-bit? Did you try running Detect & Repair? (Help menu)
Did it used to work and then stop?

Ben,
IMHO this is just one more appearance of the *in*general* problem of the
"lost SendToOneNote printer" which appears several times per day (or at
least several times per week) in this NG.

IMHO it would be high time to
- collect together all of the messages appearing here;
- collect together all of the solutions having been posted here over the
time;
- have the developers' team investigate the issue and provide solutions;
- cerate an FAQ paper for the time until this issue will be solved.

Honestly speaking:
I'm really fed up with hearing of this problem day by day.

I am having the same problem. Inistalled one note as part of office 2007
enterpride edition on a new laptop with vista home premium 64 bit and the
option to print files as print outs is grayed out, there is on onenote
printer installed.

I ran diagnostics and no problems were found.

I spesifically bought a tablet PC so I could use one note to teach science
and save the notes I create for my students and it does not work

I am having the same problem with a new computer.
I installed one note as part of the office 2007 enterprise office suite on a
computer with Vista hme premium 64 bit andthe files as print out feature is
grayed out and there is no one note printer.

I ran windows diagnostice and no problems were found

I am a teacher and amde a $2000 investment in a tablet pc specifically so I
could use this feature and it doeds not work. Very disapointing and expensive

Print to OneNote and Send to OneNote are not supported in 64-bit
Vista. It just won't work. For a workaround, if you are wanting to
take notes on other files inside of OneNote is to take notes in the
application that you are using ie, PowerPoint and then put a link to
that file inside of OneNote. It's not as seamless as printing to
OneNote, but you will still have everything linked in your OneNote
notebook.

Unfortuntely I am working with word documents and word will not allow me to
write on the documents with the tablet pen. It is a major job to comvert all
my instructional word documents into power points so I can work around a
Microsoft problem.

I did find a work around in that I can share the Note book with an XP
computer that will allow me to insert the files as print outs. This gets my
dosuments into one note with a few additional steps but is not very
convienent.

It kind of defeats the idea of saving time with computers if you have to
double or triple the set up time because of the vista operating system short
comings.

How can Microsoft ship an operating system that will not work with its two
year old office suite?

I am beginning to understand why a lot of teachers prefer the Mac operating
system over Vista

really? you are? Yeah... guess those teachers love that mac even has a
tablet.

Learn to use Word.... you can write to a word document with a tablet
pen... it's under the review ribbon ("start inking")

LOL
Really??
Ins't there only a third-party add-on?

RightyRight.
I have heavily be using commenting with a pen even under XP and Word
2003.
Some way it works even better than in ON with the missing essential
feature of grouping/anchoring objects {siiiiigh}

As said by others already, there is no x64 printer driver for OneNote.
For the reasons pls see:
David Rasmussen: OneNote 64 bit print driver
http://blogs.msdn.com/david_rasmussen/archive/2008/04/21/onenote-64-bit-print-driver.aspx

But there are viable workarounds:
Daniel Escapa: A workaround for no x64

Nils Kaiser: How to get back “Send

FWIW:
Recently two different ways of workarounds have been published:
Daniel Escapa: A workaround for no x64

In the replies on Nils Kaiser's blog there are two more possibilities
mentioned:
a) "PowerPoint To OneNote" utility
http://www.borlik.net/blog/archives/000097.html

b) PDFCreator (free and open source) creating TIFs as output
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

Obviously you are doing something wrong in Word!
Word 2007 as well as Word 2003 offer Pen support and it works really
well.

For me there isn't even the grayed out option. At school, I use the insert file as print out option all the time, but at home that option simply doesn't exist. I have only 2 options (insert link or copy) whether I use the insert tab or simply drag a file into OneNote. Any ideas how I can get that third option to occur in the home version of OneNote 2007?
