sending invitations to attendees

Can you tell me why I can't email calendar appointments from Outlook
2003 (XP Home)? I keep getting either:
Task ' - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If
you continue to receive this message, contact your server
administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'
Or
Task ' - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC13) : 'Unable to
connect to the network. Check your network connection or modem.'
I can send and receive all other emails.
