Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Email Client: pop Have not been able to send mail since late yesterday afternoon. Am receiving just fine.

error description: operation on server timed out; server may be down, overloaded, or too much traffic.
yahoo is service provider - since it sends just fine, don't think it's a server problem.

I really really think it is a server problem. Different servers are
used for sending (SMTP) and receiving (POP/IMAP) e-mails. It looks like
either the settings for your server have changed, or that the server
was experiencing temporary issues.

thanks - - but if the yahoo server was having problems, wouldn't that also impact any emails sent out from the yahoo site? Was able to go over immediately to yahoo and send emails.

Nope. Typically not. They are usually sent straight of their webmail
and never transit through the SMTP server.
