Sending message from outside Outlook hangs window

We are using Office 2003 without Word as the default editor. If a user sends
a document through Word or Worldox (our DMS) instead of composing a new
message and attaching the document, the message window hangs. The message is
still delivered, but the user has to end the task through the task manager to
clear the window.

How can this be resolved?
