Sending one email to 100 recipients with Microsoft Entourage Mac OSX.

Dear fellow workers

I've had a problem emailing my newsletter as a 790k pdf attachment.
Sent them all out in 5 separate main groups that I have created. Each
main group contains other groups with a total of 100 recipients in each
main group. They have appeared in my 'sent' folder but I've
checked with some of my clients and they haven't received them.

They have all been returned as 'failure delivery' because of:-

<@smtp809.mail.ukl.yahoo.com>:
216.145.48.35 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 5.1.2 <""@smtp809.mail.ukl.yahoo.com>...
Unsupported mail destination
Giving up on 216.145.48.35.

All five group folders had the same message shown above repeated many
times which seems very strange.

Is there any way of finding out how many email addresses can be
contained within one group. I have searched the Entourage help section
but cannot find anything related to this.

When I used Outlook Express I never had this problem sending out a
similar number of groups within groups, so I would really appreciate
any helpful advice please on how to send them out successfully, as I
have spent days trying to solve this very frustrating challenge.

I have tried Google Answers and have received 2 suggestions shown
below:-

You may want to check with Yahoo. Yahoo has very specific
requirements when sending bulk emails ( to hamper spammers ). I know
from past experience with their economy hosting, you can only send out
250 emails per 24 hour period using php mail function. They also
limited how many "addresses" could be in the header of the emails.
This caused one of my clients some headaches. If I were you, I would
check with Yahoo about the problem.
Regards,
Jack

** Does anyone know how to contact Microsoft Entourage or Yahoo

Best OSX tip for this one would be to use an application called Max
Bulk Mailer from Maxprog..http://www.maxprog.com/MaxBulk.html

This application allows you to upload lists and send html and text
based mails..
it also allows you to set how the mails are sent so that you can send
them in small groups so as to not upset your ISP!
It also checks subjects and mail content to see if the mail will be see
as spam

You can download a trial version the full version cost $49..worth
every penny just for the spam check function alone..

It supports attachments so you can send pdfs with it.

** Has anyone else used this programme and can they recommend it

Hope someone out there can help and put me out of my misery!!

Most ISPs have limits on the number of of messages that can go out at once,
as a rather crude method of preventing spam. Also they're not particularly
interested in getting jammed, nor in helping people use their consumer
service for big business mass mailings without fee. In most cases you'd
just contact your ISP and ask them. You must have _some_ way of connecting
to the internet - surely you have an ISP? Ask them. You can then use my
script "Split Recipients X" using that limit.

However, Yahoo probably has a limit as well. You'll need to find out how to
ask them. Or just experiment using say 20 or 25 or so as the limit.

Finally, I believe we discovered that Entourage 2004 does indeed have a bug
with sending email to nested groups within groups. I can't recall if the
11.1 (Service Pack 1) update fixed that - in fact I'm hazy on this
altogether I just have a dim recollection that this came up before. In any
case the current version of Split Recipients X should deal with that too.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.

First of all apologies for taking so long to reply, but I’ve been in
the throws of upgrading to OSX, Quark 6.5 etc and it’s been a
nightmare!! Almost lost all my current work as one of my drivers
collapsed! It’s been one step forward and twenty back – wish I had OS9
back but I’m sure I’ll look back in a few weeks time and realise that
it was all worth it.

Fortunately things have now begun to stabilise.

I’ve tried a number of times to reply to your very thoughtful and
helpful suggestions, but keep getting the annoying message “the attempt
to load failed”, but eventually tried logging on another way and got
through at last.

After spending hours & hours trying to solve the problem of sending out
one email with attachment to all my contacts and being told by
newsgroups from around the world that there’s no way round it ...
.... I've eventually made it work for!!!

I can tell you I’m overjoyed at this breakthrough as it’s been getting
me down for ages (along with the OSX battle).

Have been using Microsoft Entourage in OSX for about the last month,
having changed from Outlook Express in OS9. I decided to go back to
OS9, open up Outlook and try again from there, but that had a host of
other difficulties to overcome.

Firstly had to re-register, finding all my various Account ID; Password
etc. When I eventually sorted that out I then tried exporting all my
address contacts from Entourage into Outlook. This through up another
problem as all my contacts were in various grouped folders within
Entourage, but when importing them to Outlook there was just screeds of
email addresses, not in any groups. Then had to regroup them all.
Finished the first out of 5 main group folders at midnight a few days
ago and have now just completed all 5 of the main group folders But the
joy of it all is that they do now send without being knocked back –
hooray!!! - now I’m knackered!

I went back to Entourage and tried just sending one email with only 30
addresses, all within sub groups, but that would't even work. Maybe
it's sending them in group folders that's the problem? I checked with
my IT guy and he says I do have the 11.1 (Service Pack 1) update.

Thanks for your help.
