Sending ppt/pps decks to PC users

M

Mark Levine

I have sent a 2.6 MB Show/.pps version of a deck to PC folks over e-
mail.

They can't open it.

Is there a format that travels better for folk on PCs who may NOT have
Powerpoint on their machines?

Any other thoughts on why they can't open the pps file?

Many thanks,

Mark

I would recommend that the user install the free PowerPoint Viewer, which
will allow him or her to open PowerPoint presentations. There are links to
the Viewers here:

Otherwise, you could save it as a QuickTime movie (File -> Make Movie) if
you have Office 2001 or later. The user would need to install QuickTime
Player, available free from Apple.

With what application did you send the file? In Outlook Express and
Entourage, the encoding (underneath the Attachments pane) is by default set
to "Any Computer." You might want to try changing that to "Windows
(MIME/Base64)" and re-sending the document.

In the Preferences dialog (under the Tools menu in 98, Edit menu in 2001,
PowerPoint menu in X and 2004), under the "Save" tab, make sure the option
to "Allow Fast Saves" is disabled.
