sending to a contact who has more than one email address

When I type a contact's (from my address book) name into
the "To" box and hit the "Check names" button, it always
selects the first (ie default) name; is there a quick way
to choose one of the contact's alternate email addresses
without having to go back to the address book, look up
the contact, and do an "Actions, New Message to contact" -
which will then creeate a message which includes ALL the
contacts email addresses!
I'm using Outlook 2000 on XP - any help greatly
appreciated.

Don't type.
Just click the To: button.
Select whichever address you want from the Outlook Address Book. That's what
the OAB is for.

contact's default address is offered; I occasionally want
to send to a contact's alternate email address instead of
the default, and the only way to do this is to change the
alternate address to become the default (click on
Properties, then Name, then Set As Default) - which
rather negates the idea of having a default address in
the first place.

Not possible, unless you are not using the Outlook Address Book.
The old IMO mode used the Windows Address Book. Switch to Corp/Workgroup
mode if you want to use the Outlook Address Book.
