sending word documents in excel files

I just received an e-mail from a potential employer to whom I sent my resume and cover letter, asking if I could resend the documents in an excel file. Is this possible? And if so, how do I do this?

I think you need to get in contact with that individual to clarify what s/he
is asking for. Word documents can't simply be saved as Excel files - word
processing documents & spreadsheets are 2 separate & distinct formats. Word
docs can be inserted into Excel files as embedded objects but for what you
describe it hardly makes any sense to do so.
