SENT EMAIL GOING TO DELETED FOLDER!!!!

Please help... I am new to MAC so am not so sure about all the jargon... was never any good on pc either though lol....

anyway, back to the problem. I have a fully subcribed account with hotmail. I am recieving all email ok through Entourage, with all rule i have set up for incoming mail being correctly filed and foldered... however, i am finding that all my sent mail is going into the Deleted Folder on 'My Computer'. This is proving to be a real problem as i am losing business sent mail.

I have checked all outgoing mail rule and there appear to be none!!!!!

your help would be greatly appreciated :)

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder
as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other
rules.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order
they are listed. (top runs first)

Hi Diane, and thanks for you help.

have tried all your suggestions before, and have rechecked. I can confirm i have no MLM rules and no other rules of any kind to affect it. Are the custom rules prone to glitches? Do you think deleting all of them help in any way?

STRUGGLING!!!!!!!!! LOL

Occasionally rules will become corrupt, but this doesn't sound like that.
Deleting the rule will fix any problems. We just need to find where it's
incorrectly set.

When you open rules, there are tabs across the top Mail (POP) Mail (IMAP)
Mail (Windows Live Hotmail)....Outgoing.

You mentioned you check Outgoing, but did you check the (Windows Live
Hotmail)?

Next, open your accounts under tools and select your account. Click on the
Advanced tab and see if you have the wrong selection.

Also did you set this up as a POP or as a web account?

Hi Diane...

Thanks for the latest bit of advice!!! Its cured the problem!!!

checked my account setting and noticed the 'Save sent messages in the server 'sent items' folder instead of locally' was selected. I deselected this and BINGO!!!

Many thanks for your help and VERY swift answers!!!! Especially as it was the weekend!!!

Hi,

I am using Entourage 2004 and the same problem has arisen for me. But
it is not just sent messages- the same thing happens with new messages
as well. They go into the generic Entourage Inbox and in the Deleted
Hotmail folder. Also, if you resync the hotmail account everything
goes, no matter what folder it is stored in originally, into the
Deleted Hotmail folder and generic Entourage Inbox. I have been using
Hotmail via Entourage for years and this is completely new behavior.
It would appear something has changed on the server side (Hotmail)
that confuses Entourage.

I am using Entourage 2004 and the same problem has arisen for me. But
it is not just sent messages- the same thing happens with new messages
as well.

First, check all your rules including the Mailing List Manager rules. Next
try setting up your account as a POP account.

I am not interested in POP. It is not useful for multiple access
points. The current setup was almost like IMAP and therefore useful.
My rules have not changed in over a year, so I am not convinced they
are at fault.

Rules can become corrupt and it's easy to accidentally create a Mailing List
Manager rule when marking a message as junk.

As I had little time to check each rule, etc., I used the sledgehammer
approach and cleared everything. This resulted in a positive outcome -
Hotmail is working again!
