Sent emails show as Not Sent & stay in Outbox

In Outlook 2002, when I SEND a new email message I get an Error Message
"Unknown Error 0x80040109". I close the Error Message box & find that the
message is still in the Outbox, but not italicised, rather than being in the
Sent Items folder. When I reopen the message, it says "Message Not Sent". In
fact, it was Sent.

I click SEND again & this clears the message from the Outbox to the Sent
Items folder. However, all my recipients get duplicate emails from me!

'Replies' & 'Forwards' are not a problem - just new email messages. So - why
are emails that were Sent showing as Not Sent?

Turn off AV scanning of your incoming and outgoing mail (this will not
compromise your antivirus capabilities). Also make sure there are no
outstanding updates available from your antivirus vendor. If that doesn't
work check to see what Outlook Add Ins / COMs you may be running. That
message indicates that a message has been unexpectedly changed and could be
the result of an Add In.
Tools -> Options -> Other -> Advanced Options... -> Add-In Manager

Thanks Kathleen - I tried the things you suggested but none helped. BUT -
indirectly you pointed me to the solution - so simple that I'm embarrassed
to admit it!

On the "slipstick" website that you showed in your reply, I read an article
titled "After viewing the Outbox, the messages in it won't send". After
highlighting a couple of key sentences, I realized that when I send a new
message I first click on the Outbox then click on New message. The message
Sends OK but ends up stuck in the Outbox & says 'Not Sent'. Now I click on
the Inbox then click New message, & thereafter everything works fine.

I feel so dumb, but thanks for pointing me to the solution.
