Try changing the column by which you are sorting the folder ( try sorting by
Subject or Name by clicking on the heading, for starters).

In investigating this problem, I have discovered that my Microsoft User Data
Folder is 62.07 gigabytes! An astronomical amount. I copy it to my laptop
about once per month and the laptop MS User data folder is only 11 gbytes.
What could make it grow so exponentially? What can I trash without losing
my data. I synch Entourage with my Blackberry which I'm sure doesn't have
anything like a gigabyte capacity, and it has my calendar, contacts, tasks,
notes, etc. I've transferred the MS User data folder to an auxiliary hard
drive, but I need the data on my Mac G5. Any suggestions to trim it down or
explanations as to why it's so large? Thanks again....

Thanks for trying to help me on this....I tried that but it didn't
work...anything else (I tried to rebuild database again, and it wouldn't
complete...says my disc is full...which is odd as I have a 150 gig disc and
it was showing 70 gigs of free space last week, and now shows 2.88 gigs
free...quirky and voodoo like). I do appreciate your trying to help me./Hal

Every time you rebuild your Entourage database it creates a duplicate
backup. You can throw these away when you are satisfied that the rebuild was
successful.

The Microsoft User Data folder contains several folder, but most should be
very small. Your Entourage Temp folder might be large if you leave Entourage
on all the time. Anything that a MS app puts in the Temp Folder should be
deleted when the app quits, but sometimes, after a crash, bits get left
behind. If you don't quit Entourage on a regular basis, you should run the
script "Delete Temporary Items folder" with a schedule.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/downloads/scripts/Delete_Temp_Items.zip>

The folder you need to concentrate on is the Office 2004 Identities folder.
Look inside the "Main" folder (called Main by default) or your current
Identity name. Check the size of the database. If this is astronomical then
there is a problem that is new but serious.

Look for the Identity that have [Backed up 2-16-2007 14. 0]. You can delete
those. Previously, Entourage stored the backup inside the Main folder. These
files are named:

Entourage X: "Old Database Cache" and "Old Database"
Entourage 2001: "Old Database Cache", "Old Database", and "Old Messages." In
addition, Database (Rebuild) Cache is retained.

Delete the old files.

Another way to trim your database is to remove attachments. See how to along
with some other tips to trim your database here:

If you still have problems, report back with more details and we'll try to
offer some suggestions.

Diane...thanks so much for your comprehensive response. I ran the script
and looked at the tips for database reduction but I have trouble in River
City and before trashing something crucial, wanted to check with you.

In my MS User Data/Office 2004 Identities/ Main Identity is 60.16 GB
Database - 13.8 GB
Mailing Lists 16 KB
Old Database 3.65 KB
Old DB 1: 3.41 GB
Old DB 2 : 10.38 GB
Old DB 3 : 13.78 GB
Old DB 4: 15.12 GB
Rules: 16 KB
Sig: 24 KB

Main ID [Backed Up 2-18-2007] 1.47 GB
[Backed Up 5-1-2006] 7.42 GB
[Backed Up 5-3-2005] 22.11 GB
[Backed Up 5-3-2005] 23.22 GB
[Backed Up 12-15-2006] 17.21 GB

Office X ID/Main ID/Database....1.75 GB
/Database cache 24 KB
/Mailing Lists 16 KB
/Rules minimal
/Sig...minimal

So, Diane...can I trash the Office 2004 Old Database and Old DAtabase 1-4?
And Do I need the Main ID Back Ups save the last one? They are a lot of
gigabytes and must be cumulative?

Thanks again for your help...Can you sing too?

Originally, 2004 renamed the rebuilt databases as "old". If you check the
dates on those files, you should see they are really old. The ones with
[Backed Up] are newer and can also be deleted. After all rebuilds, you
should delete the backed up copy WHEN you are satisfied that the rebuild was
successful.

Now to the Office X Identity. Why do you still have it? Are you using both
versions? If not. I would delete or archive it off your drive.

Yes, they are a lot of gigabytes. I'm interested in seeing how the new
Leopard Time Machine is going to handle multiple copies of the Microsoft
User Data folder.

you. I'm grateful.

I'm glad I could help. Another tip I can offer for keeping Entourage trim is
to use a script to remove attachments after they are sent. Attachments can
really balloon the size of your database. Most attachments are stored on
your hard drive so having a duplicate in the MUD folder is unnecessary.

Thanks...I did this by implementing a rule...but I'll do the script too.
