sent items not appearing / missing, butlocated through 'you replied'

ok .... i've trawled for hours through forums, but can't seem to find a solution to this issue

up until a few days ago, i was sending and receiving emails no problem through my entourage / exchange account

this is still the case, but ALL of my sent items from this point on have become invisible

they are presumably still around because when i click on 'show reply' or 'show original' in somebody's reply (for an email that may have gone in a conversation for a while) i can locate both my original sent message, as well as my subsequent replies to THEIR replies

hopefully this makes sense

but i cannot locate, anywhere, these original sent items; they are not in sent items in my exchange box, NOR in the sent items on 'my computer'

the sent items don't show up in either spotlight or entourage search either, and they have not synced with the server, because they don't show up in either OWA or an outlook client when connected through a pc

please advise - i know they are there, because i can see them, but somehow something has got scrambled and my sent messages have gone walkabout

nope - it's definitely something to do with where entourage is storing some of the sent items

although i recently setup a new alias (i have several exchange email addresses on different domains) and making this change stopped the problem

however, all of the emails that went missing from the sent mail box prior to this are still not there (although showing up as per my previous post when linked to from another message)

sorry ... further to original post .... have just noticed my language might be slightly ambiguous

not ALL of my sent items had vanished

meant that all of my sent items from a particular date forward were not showing up in the sent items folder

Unfortunately, this sounds like some sort of database corruption and
your options are limited. Try this:

First, I don't recommend rebuilding a Database with an Exchange account,
however I'll recommend a rebuild so long as you don't reconnect the
Database to your Exchange Server.

1. Set Entourage to work offline under Entourage menu --> Work Offline.

2. Quit Entourage.

2. Go into your home folder and locate your identity. It's located in

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2008 Identities

3. Locate the "Main Identity" folder and duplicate it. Name the
duplicate something like "Rebuild".

4. Launch Entourage and select Entourage menu --> Switch Identity... and
select your "Rebuild" identity. It is set to work offline so no new mail
should be either sent or received with this identity.

5. Quit Entourage again.

6. Launch Entourage while holding the Option key held down.

7. Select the option to verify your Database and if necessary rebuild it.

8. After the rebuild, launch Entourage. It should still be opening your
"Rebuild" identity.

Do your sent messages appear now? If so, export them using File -->
Export... Switch back to your "Main Identity" and import them.
