sent mail folder getting too large for internal hard disk

I save all my sent mail, but now the folder is rather large, so I'd like to store the sent items folder away from the internal disk, e.g. to an 8 gb DVD or to a folder on the usb external storage device that I use for Time Machine backups -- I prefer the DVD since there is less risk of data loss on a DVD vs the usb backup device?
After the sent items are properly stored, I assume that I can create a new sent items folder within Entourage, thus on the internal drive; correct? How to set Entourage, so whenever it's launched, I can see both the externally stored sent items and the new sent items on the internal disk?

Many thanks in advance.

You can export as an Entourage archive (.rge) file. It gives you the option
to delete after exporting.

Dragging the folder to the desktop creates an MBOX file. This is a copy.

Both methods do not remove the Sent folder. None of the default folders can
be deleted.

I just posted an article that might be useful for you.

BTW, storing your archived sent folders on Time Machine is good, but backing
up daily to Time Machine on the hourly schedule is not.

Don't backup to Time Machine blurb....

It's advised not to let Time Machine backup your Entourage database. If the
database is copied while being used, the backup could be corrupt. You can
set the Time Machine to exclude the Microsoft User Data folder and create an
iCal event to copy it over at night while not in use so you get one backup
daily in Time Machine. Also copying your database hourly can tax your system
plus fill up your drive. Considering a typical database of 2 GB backed up
hourly for 8 hrs would be 16 GB. That's a lot of background activity.

Alternative method to use Entourage and Time Machine (does a once a day or
whatever time period you select)
