sent mail not leaving outbox & update errors

I am using outlook 2007 (from Enterprise 2007 bought at school) I have my
school and hotmail accounts routed through it using the outlook wizards. It
has worked okay (occasional delays for incoming mail from school but running
the repair from the "tools" "options" "mailsetup" menu always fixed had to do
it once a week though) for the last 2 months. Then at my professors request
I loaded the school's free enterprise version of Mcafee virus scanner. Now
my send does not seem to work at all. The mail items stay in the outbox. I
hit send/recive or just send and in the bottom right corner it says "sending"
and gets to about 33-35% and stays there for hours and never gets any further
or gives error messages. The only error I get is when I close outlook
(dialog askes if I want to exit w/o sending I select yes) When I open it back
up it tells me there was an error but no details. When I test the settings
(or connection??) I get the test email just fine.

I think there is an update error some where because at the same time I
started getting notifications from the auto updater that 4 updates for
outlook can not be installed. I have been through every trouble shooter i
can find on this website, in outlook and in the security center/auto updater.

additional information

i finally found an error message (after alot of looking)
Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCCF4) :
'Unknown Error 0x800CCCF4'

so I changed the email box to send from to my school account (the original
way i had it set up) and now it seems to be sending but taking several
minutes per email which it did not before. I also can not get mcafee to
delete from my computer along w/ a movie making program i loaded the same day
(to see if they are part of the problem)

this compter is about 2 months old got it, MS office 2007 same week and
running XP after all the bad stuff i heard about vista.

This is a typical problem when installing AV programs. Uninstal; McAfee and
reinstall it without the mail scanning feature.

I did exactly what you suggested. I have not tried to send yet i am about to
but i have a related question. When I open outlook it is telling me the the
email scan option is no longer availibe and to update or uninstall it. I
thought that would have been done when i uninstalled the entire mcafee
program. so my question is how do i find this "addin" as the dialouge box
called it to uninstall it completely? there is nothing in the add remove
hardware programs that has a name even close to mcafee or email scanning
except the full program.

FYI I just tried to reply to an email and the reply will not send it is
sitting in my outbox and i am getting the same errors as before. could that
be because of the addon that outlook wants me to uninstal that i can not find.

Try deleting the (usually hidden) file extend.dat in the folder
%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook on WIndows
2000/XP and
%LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Outlook on Vista
