Sent mail remains in Outbox AFTER it has been sent

I can tell it has been sent because the SEND button is not longer visible and
instead the REPLY button is revealed as in any Sent mail plus I receive
responses from the emails sent. This just started happening today. I have
been manually moving them from the Outbox Folder to the Sent Folder.
