Sent messages never arrive - no errors

Email Client: Exchange

I have several users on various versions of Entourage (2004 and 2008) reporting that sometimes their messages just never arrive at their destinations. They appear to send, the messages show up in the Sent Items folder both in Entourage and in the Web Access, but the recipient never gets it, and there is no error message so the sender doesn't realize their correspondents aren't reading the messages.

The problem occurs with recipients who are inside our organization as well as outside.

Additionally, the same message sent from either our Web access or Apple's Mail application goes through with no problem.

Some of my users are switching to Mail for this reason but others are tied to the calendars on our Exchange system and can't easily switch.

I've updated every user I can to the latest version(s) of Office.

(I was hopeful after MS reported 12.2.0 had "Improved reliability when you send encrypted or digitally signed messages to recipients in different organizations.
This update fixes an issue that causes some encrypted or digitally signed messages to be discarded by the receiving server without an undeliverable notification to the sender. ")

Has anyone else had this problem?
Solved it?

Please help!

I suggest asking on the microsoft.public.exchange.admin newsgroup. One of
our Exchange experts might be able to help but if the problem is on the
server, this group might be able to give you the help you need.

If you are not familiar with a newsreader, Entourage's basic newsreader
already has the Microsoft News server included. All you do is subscribe to
the newsgroups you want. See this article for help subscribing using the
Entourage newsreader:

Thanks for the reply, Diane.

I'll take a look at the newsgroup but I'm hesitant to call it an Exchange
issue since my users can send messages with no problem from the Outlook Web
Access, or full Outlook, or even Apple Mail. The only time they run into
trouble is when they send messages from Entourage.

....or do you suspect our Exchange server is misconfigured somehow?

Thanks,
Peggy

I don't have the Exchange experience to say. Sorry!

The way to verify where the problem lies is to check for one of the
"missing" messages in the user's Exchange account using Outlook Web
Access (OWA). If the message appears in the Sent Items folder in the
user's account then the message has made it to the server. If a message
makes it to the server then the problem is out of Entourage's hands.

Hope this helps!
