Separate taskbar buttons for different documents

O

When I first installed Word (Office XP under WinXP) I had separate taskbar
buttons for different documents opened at the same time if there was enough
room there. At one point and for reasons I can't recall, I changed this so
that all open documents were piled up on a single button. I've decided I
don't like this any more but I can't figure out how to change it back. I've
tried right-clicking the taskbar and putting a check mark in "Group similar
taskbar buttons" but this doesn't unpile the documents any longer. What to
do?

The Taskbar option, "Group similar tasks" will create a single button
on the Taskbar but when you click on it a menu will display containing
the grouped tasks.

I suspect you turned SDI (single document interface) off in the
applications. Go to Tools/Options and find "Windows in the Taskbar" on
either the General or View tab depending on the application.
