separating data into columns

Seraya

Hi,

I have a table with two colums of data. The second column has the
street address, the suburb and the postcode in the one column. The
suburb is in capital letters. Is there a way to separate the data in
this second column into three columns, that is, one for the street
address, the next for the suburb and the third for the postcode,
besides the long way around of copying and pasting each into separate
columns.

Perhaps a macro - I don't know how to write macros though.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Seraya,

Not sure if there's a better way, but you can copy and paste in columns
instead of lines within Word by holding down the option key as you drag the
mouse over a selection, which would make the copy and paste option far
quicker.

Dayo:

You need to warn her that this technique will work only if she converts the
table to text first. She needs to:

1. make a copy of the table
2. convert it to text
3. copy the columns as you describe
4. paste as a new section of text
5. convert the pasted column to a table
6. select the cells and copy
7. Add a column to the original table
8. Paste the copied cells into the new column
9. Repeat for the other column.

Cheers

That crossed my mind after I posted, but when I saw the same question in the
excel group, I didn't bother bringing it up.
