SEQ fields

Peter Fagan

There have been several posts to microsoft.public.word.numbering
recently where SEQ fields were offered as a solution.

For many of these, the Pro_Numbering.dot template can deliver the
required SEQ field functionality with minimum user effort - no need to
create AutoText, nest fields etc.

Pro_Numbering.dot:

* automatically writes SEQ fields into the document
* can write SEQ fields with leading zeros
* can precede or follow SEQ fields with specific pre or post-field
text.

Users and potential users of SEQ fields are welcome to read about and
request Pro_Numbering.dot. For more information, go to:

http://www.idoc.com.au/numbering/numbering.htm

Specific example requests from microsoft.public.word.numbering since
May 2004:

"Is it possible to add text before a seq number?...I want to add the
word Tab to the seq number. I know I can use Outline or Heading
numbering and customize...would prefer to use seq numbering. There
must be a way to add text before or after the number."

You can do this with Pro_Numbering for six different types of SEQ
field, not just Arabic numbering.

"Is there a way to use autonumbering with the number not being the
first thing in the paragraph?"

Pro_numbering does this, with your choice of text applied before the
number, and after the number as well, if you want that.

"I need to number labels in Word from 001 to 200 is there
a way of getting each label to have a sequential number
easily without typing in each number? I.e. label 1 has
text 001 label 2 has text 002 etc...."

Pro_numbering does this, for up to 7 digits, with or without comma
separation eg:

01
02

0000001
0000001

0,000,001
0,000,002

"I want to place the autonumber fields in my document to
have something like Text 1, Text 2 etc. and I know how to
do it. But I need to have this repeated three times in my
document."

SEQ fields will do this and Pro_numbering makes it easy for you to
insert the fields.

Finally, another post asked where to learn more about fields. Those
interested in learning more about SEQ numbering fields may find this
page on my web site helpful:
