Serial numbering of Labels

Hi, I am very new to Publisher so forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I understand how to create labels but what I want to do is to create a
separate serial number for each label on a sheet. For example; if I am using
an Avery J8651 template, this sheet contains 65 labels, I want to insert a
serial number in each label that increases by one therefore creating a sheet
of lables numbered 0001 to 0065.

Can this be done and if so can anyone help?

If you have Access or Excel it is easy to do consecutive numbers for a mail
merge.
There is an Excel example here, scroll down below the fish (Access works about
the same)
