Serial Numbers

We recently purchased a weekly newspaper, there are 4 MacIntosh
computers running Microsoft Office 2004. The problem I am having is I
had to rebuild one the other day and I don't know which product key to
use. If you go to about Office 2004 you get this serial number of all
number which don't match the product key. Is there a way to find out
which serial number matches which product key. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

No way to tell....

After reinstalling, look at the Product ID in the About window in any Office
program. If you have used the same serial number twice, then two computers
will have a Product ID that is the same except for the last block of 5
digits. If that's the case, try a different number.

To change numbers without reinstalling, launch the Remove Office
application. At the first window, hold down Option, and Continue will
change to Remove Licensing Info Only. Option-click and go on your merry way
to reenter another number.

If you are particularly unlucky in your trial and error, at least at the end
of it you will have a list of which serial number goes where. On the grand
scale of things, 4 is not so many.

Well, there's no "exact" way to tell, but the following will help:

The first 15 digits of the Serial Number will match for any Microsoft Office
product installed with the SAME product key.

You could go through a laborious process of "Re-serialising" the Office
software and entering a different key each time until you get one that does
NOT match each of the other 3 :)

To quickly change the licence key without re-installing see here:

1) Launch the Remove Office application from the Additional Tools Folder in
your Microsoft Office 2004 folder.

2) Press the option key at the first dialog window

The button changes its name to read "Remove License Info Only."

Follow the instructions: next time you start any of the Office applications,
it will ask for a new key.

Cheers
