Serious problem immediate after office online upgrade

Office XP professional, after using the online office "check for upgrade"
function. Using the same Office XP installation CD, and the patches download
(SP3 for office XP, etc) and reboot.

The error likes the following:
1. The word program, when open file (network or local) error "Path cannot
open".
2. The excel program, when start and loading the add-in, error "file cannot
find".

This actually stops the office functioning.
