serious projection problem

Two days ago, I posted a note telling about projection problems, in the sens
that the projection on the screen is cut off at the left, while on my
computer screen all is fine. It has been suggested that this might be a
resolution problem (Thanks, Bill), but it isn't.
I further tested it today using, once again another beamer, and the problem
remains, but we discovered that by switching between LCD and large screen
(Function-F8 on my machine) things change: if I have it displayed on both,
the margin is cut off (incidentally, it is now the right margin, go figure
!?!), but if I put it on the large screen only and leave my laptop screen
black, it is fine. Continuously toggling between the different modes does not
change anything.
This seems to suggest that this is probably a hardware problem or some
such(when the problem first occued there was a long beep).
Anyone experienced this before?

My laptop is an ASUS L5C Pentium 4, using a default screen (on Mobility
Radeon 9000)

Have you updated your video driver? Have you contacted your laptop
manufacturer? Are you using Hydravision?

You might try reinstalling your video drivers.

I'm wondering if the Radeon video card isn't seated properly?

Bad RAM can do weird stuff, too. Wonder if a RAM chip got loose? (Just
thinking out loud -- I doubt that's really it.)

I work for an audio-visual company. We see this often. While this may not
be your issue, I have found that by pressing the "auto adjust" (or some
similarly named) button on the projector(beamer) once it is connected to
the computer, it forces the projector re-sync the VGA signal and adjust
itself properly (assuming the projector CAN sync to the source signal).
Depending on the projector model, this may not be an option, in which case
you may need to manually adjust the horizontal setting through the
projector menu.

We see many different video issues all the time, and it is always
interesting to discover the various issues particular to certain models of
projectors and laptops.

.... primary monitor? 1024x 768?

.... secondary monitor? 1024 x 768?
If other, does the projector support it?

.... Show resolution? Use Current?

I did not hear back, so thought you had resolved this.
