Server error: Cannot create folder W3SVC104

J

Joe S.

The theme on my website has disappeared -- pages, links, etc. are there but
the theme and the shared borders are gone. I went to the hosting control
panel, removed and reinstalled FP Extensions.

When I try to publish from my computer to the host site, I get an error that
says:
SERVER ERROR: CANNOT CREATE FOLDER W3SVC104

Host tech support has not been especially helpful. Can anyone here help?

Thanks.

Folder like W3SVC104 are usually your server log
- if you have it in your local copy delete it
- if not contact your host

Stefan:

THANK YOU. That solved the problem -- I deleted the W3SVC104 folder from my
computer and the site published perfectly -- publishing took almost 3 hours
as it published the entire site.

Now, let me ask you another question: Should there be a stats folder on my
computer?

I use MS FP 2003 to maintain five web sites. Last year, everything I owned
was destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. A few months ago I purchased a new
computer and have been installing software on it -- I lost all my original
application disks, also.

After installing MS FP 2003, I did not have copies of my web sites -- so --
I opened the remote site in MS FP and published from the remote site to my
computer. As a result, I have a stats folder for each web site on my
computer. I checked and one of them has 48 files and takes up 18 MB of disk
space.

Should these stats folders be on my computer, or, should I delete them and
leave them on the remote server?

Thanks.

You don't need them on your local PC.

However you need to contact your web host and ask them to convert the stat folder into FP subweb /
subsites if you can not convert them by open each of the live/remote sites in FP, and then right
clicking on the stat folder and selecting to convert to subweb / site. This will eliminate the
folder being publish down to your PC or back to the live/remote site from your PC or when delete on
your local, deleted when you publish to the live/remote site.

Joe:
I have a few sites where the stats are kept in the web site in a folder
called stats. What I do when I need to publish the web down to my PC is
this:

1. Open the live web site.
2. Navigate to the stats folder.
3. Mark as many files as I can as 'Do not publish'.
4. Publish the live site down to my PC - it should go much quicker without
the stats.
5. When the publish is done, close the live site.
6. Open the local site and navigate to the stats folder.
7. Right-click on the stats folder and choose 'Convert to Web'. This will
make the stats folder a subweb of your local web site. As long as you don't
publish using the publish subwebs options, it will not try to publish the
stats info back to your live site.
