Server Error when I publish web

V

VillageClerk

When I click Publish Website first it tells me that "the server unexpectedly
closed the connection" then "unable to open www.XXXX.com "

I have contacted the host. They said to contact Microsoft. A very helpful
person from Microsoft has been emailing suggestions; however, I am not
getting anywhere.

I have asked the host to delete the website and re-set it, but they refused
saying, "The reason we will not make the change is because the website is
working properly and we can access it via multiple computers. Microsoft
requested this same change on another domain last week and it completely
corrupted that domain user. We ended up having to completely remove the site
and start them with a blank copy, which still did not resolve the problem.
We've exhausted all efforts on our end to resolve the Front Page issue and
must defer to Microsoft's support. I understand the frustration involved,
but we've confirmed multiple times it is a Microsoft Front Page client-side
issue."

The next suggestion was to repair the FP extensions in the control panel...I
am still waiting to here from the host.

Anybody else out there having this issue...or anyone have suggestions.

I am at a loss...our site has not been updated for a week now.

What's the URL to your website?
Exactly what steps have you been taking to Publish?

You can determine if FP extensions are installed by typing
http://yourdomain.com/_vti_inf.html into a browser. If the extensions are
installed you'll get a page titled "FrontPage Configuration Information". If
they're not installed you'll get a "Page Not Found" error. Also, you can
update your site and then FTP the changed pages. If you use any FrontPage
features that require the server extensions this is not a good idea.
Finally, some hosts provide a cPanel or other front end interface that allows
editing of pages on the site.

To publish, I open Frontpage 2002 and choose publish web from the file menu.
I receive an error about the server closing the connection. I have tried
Open Web and sometimes I can open the web; however, as soon as I make a
change and save it or publish I receive the server error again.

A couple of times I have had a screen come up in frontpage with the local
files and the server files and drug over a file. It errors; however, the
updated version of the file is in the webserver side. When I click publish,
I receive the error.

Hope I have answered your questions. If not, let me know.

Thanks for your time.

I tried the url with my domain and received the "Page not found" error. I
don't know enough about server extensions to know if our site uses them. Our
host does not have a control panel or interface for publishing.

The extensions are there...whether they are working or not is another issue.
Personallly, I'd be looking for another host since they seem pretty lame to
me.

What happens when you browse to your home page with IE then select Edit with
Frontpage (icon on your top toolbar in IE) then put in your UN/PW when
prompted?

When I browse to my home page with IE; the error "the server has
unexpectledly closed the connection" comes up after I open the pages with my
UN and PW, make a change then save.

Sure sounds like a server issue.
