We have created a disk-based web site (ie. there is no web server) on
a network drive. When we try to rename a folder inside this web in
FrontPage 2002 SP-2, FP thinks about this for 30 seconds, then we get
a message
Server Error: Cannot rename folder "xyz"
This will happen with ANY folder which contains at least one file in
the tree below it. It does not happen if the folder contains no files
other than more folders.
We have created webs which have this problem on a disk served/shared
by a) a W2000 server (all service packs installed SP-4) and b) a
laptop (running Windows XP professional V2002, service pack 1). In
each case we have been able to perform these tasks using windows
explorer without permissions problems. In each case we have personally
confirmed by inspection of the server that the disk in question is
being shared with Full Control granted to our group and that our group
exists and has ALL permissions.
We have created exactly the same webs which do NOT show the problem on
a Linux server, a VMS server, a local hard drive, and on two
non-laptop XP systems running Windows XP professional V2002, service
pack 1.
The Laptop system will work intermittently (less than 50% of the time)
when the web in question consists of only one folder containing one
extremely small file.
Does anyone have an explanation or a solution?
