server name problem

I am trying to get Outlook 2001 to work with my mac. I am trying to
connect to a windows NT server using exchange server 5.5. I type in
the server name "MCSHEARER" in the server field, but the program says
it is not the correct server. I understand that the name may have
some other stuff on it like domain.com, but how do I find out what the
name is from the windows computer?

Are you using DNS on your network or are you using Host files on your Macs
to resolve the server name that you entered to an IP address? (WINS won't
work here.)

If you're using DNS, you should only need to enter the server name
MCSHEARER. A fully qualified domain name will look like
mcshearer.yourdomain.com. This may work for you if your Mac's TCP/IP
preferences don't include the yourdomain.com in the domain suffix field.

If you're not using DNS, you can email me privately and I can send you a
couple of files that will allow you to use Outlook 2001 in a Classic
environment on Mac OS X.
