server name

I am connecting a Mac using Mac OS X using Outlook 2001 to connect to
the Exchange Server 5.5 on a Window NT server. When I open Outlook
2001 to connect it asks for a server and I type in "MCSHEARER". The
server name that all the other (6) pcs use in our office. I
understand that Outlook 2001 is expecting a WINS name, something like
MCSHEARER.domain.com. How do I find out what this name is? I have
access to the Windows NT server to find it, but I have no idea what to
look for. I am the computer guy at my office. So any help would be
appreciated.

hi

the name you need should be under the DNS tab in the properties of the
server.

As Outlook 2001 is not a native application you will need to change the
host file setting under system 9.X

Can your machine boot up in Classic ? if ti can you need to create a
text file called "hosts" and save it in your system in the preferences
file.

in there you need to put

mcshearer CNAME mcsheare.?.?.?
mcshearer.?.?.? A x.x.x.x

where .?.?.? is the dns name

and x.x.x.x is the ip address of the server

you will then need to go into the control panel go to TCP/IP change the
user mode the adminstrator (found under edit) It will then show a
button called "hosts" click on that select the hosts file in the system
preferences. sve and close (it will ask you if you want to update).
restart the machine and it should work

hope this is useful
