server not connecting to sharepoint

Hi,

I've seen a lot of problems with this same error message, when I open up the
project server web page, I see under risks and issues:


There is a problem establishing a connection with the Web server running
Windows SharePoint Services. Contact your system administrator

I have followed the instructions regarding the proxy sertup, but this hasn't
helped.

I am concerned that WSS is not setup correctly now. I can go to the
SharePoint Central admin page and that come up ok, but I can't navigate to
the http://server/sites - it says page not found - is there some way I can
verify if WSS is installed and working correctly? And if it isn't can I just
uninstall it and reinstall it without touching Project? ... I hope?
