Server problems

F

Francine

We have been using FP 2003 for some time now and have had little problems.
Two days ago when we were publishing to our server (web.com) we received a
message that states “Unable to open http://eyespyli.com server error: the
server sent a response which FP could not parse. If you are trying to connect
to a windows SharePoint server, check with the servers admin to make sure
windows SharePoint services is installed properly.â€

When we try to open our webpage directly for the server we get “The server
sent a response which FP could not parseâ€.

As I said, we have been publishing to the same server, using the same FP
(2003) and the same website for years.

We check our server (web.com) and they said nothing has changed. Does anyone
have any ideas?

Please help we have since lost our navigation in our website because our
hosting provider (web.com) reset the FP extensions and we still cannot
publish.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I can edit a page. However, if I try to open it in FP I cannot. That’s
strange!

I have experienced the exact same problem. I've been posting to http:// for
a year and a half, and just today, I tried to upload my site through http://
and that exact error message came up. I contacted my host and they said the
server was fine. i tried to upload through ftp:// and it seems to work. why
all of a sudden is this happening. any help? PLEASE!

yes, I logged onto godaddy and had to reinstall the extensions. do you know
how the the extensions "broke" even though I did not even upload using ftp? I
only uploaded with FTP after failing to upload with http:// please explain
if you can. thanks for your help.

see message below from godaddy.

Manage FrontPage Extensions
Installing FrontPage Server Extensions on your hosting account will enable
you to publish your Web site using Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage Server
Extensions also allow you to implement other FrontPage specific components
like forms, counters, and discussion boards.

NOTE: If you do not install FrontPage Extensions, you must use FTP to
publish your Web site content.

You should never use FTP to upload content to a FP enabled web site. The extensions can fail for
other reasons, such as how the host has them configured. The problem is that you compound the
problem when you can't upload via http and then use FTP.
