I have an MS Access 2002 frontend app. running on client
machines that have Access 2002 and Office XP installed on
them. The backend is a SQL Server 2000 database running on
an Apache box with a Linux OS. The frontend has linked
tables to the sql server backend database via an ODBC
connection and functions just fine.
I now want to develop a web interface that runs on the
company intranet for the users when they are out of the
office and am considering using Data Access Pages. My
question is about the requirements for such a system. I
know that I need the following:
Microsoft Office XP Web Components (I believe this is
installed as part of Office XP)
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 (or later) - the clients use
IE 6.0
Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 or later - currently running SQL
Server 2000
Now, beyond this, what is needed? The Apache box contains
a web server, but it is not a Microsoft IIS system. In the
reading I've done in the Microsoft's library and knowledge
base, there is conflicting information. Sometimes it
appears that they are saying that IIS is required, and
other times it doesn't appear that way. I know that IIS is
required for ASP and IDC/HTX, but is it really required
for Data Access Pages? If so, then I'm out of luck.
Also, are there any other requirements that I have
overlooked?
