We have a COM Add-in for Outlook written in VB that performs a
function when the NewMail event occurs. We use Redemption for
SafeMailItems, but don't use the ExtendedMAPI NewMail event, just the
regular Outlook NewMail event. The add-in isn't working for one user.
It appears that the NewMail event is not being thrown. The key
difference in this user's setup seems to be that they have installed
XP Service Pack 2. On this page,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=842242, it says that
some programs may not receive new mail notifications when SP2 is
installed. However, I haven't been able to find anything else on MSDN
or on these forums that would indicate that SP2 might be the problem
or how to fix it.
Does anyone know if SP2 changes the way Outlook throws the new mail
event? Any other ideas on what might keep the newmail event from
being thrown? We are hesitant to install SP2 on our test machine due
to some other issues, without knowing that SP2 is the problem.
Thanks for your help.
