Service Pack 3 not install in Office 2000?

D

Daithi

I upgraded from Office 97 to 2000. I visited Office on-line and ran auto
detect. Service Pack 1 was the first required install. This was successful.
Next was Service Pack 3. This was unsuccessful. I wasn't asked for the CD
during either of these installs, though it was still in the drive. Maybe it
was accessed, I don;t know. How do I get Service Pack 3 to install? Without
it I can't move on the other, optional updates.

Thanks to anyone in advance.

You are missing SR 1 and SR1a Patch . When you have those installed then you will be able to get to SP2.

The order of install is

SP1, SR1, SR 1a**, SP2, SR2 ,SP3, SP4

**SR 1a includes SR1

Hi Peter, according to this you don't SP2.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...70-47D0-4306-9FA4-8E92D36332FE&displaylang=en

Before you install this update, make sure that you are currently using the SR1
versions of all the Office 2000 applications that are installed on your machine.

To determine if Office 2000 SR1 is currently installed on your computer

1.. In Microsoft Windows®, on the Start menu, click Settings and then click Control
Panel.
2.. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3.. Make sure that all Microsoft Office 2000 installed applications listed are the
SR1 versions.
4.. Do one of the following:
a.. If the SR1 versions are not listed, you need to install the Office 2000
Service Release 1a (SR1a) Update.
b.. If SR1 is displayed, then you already have SR1 or SR1a installed on your
computer, and you only need to install SP3.

You are missing SR 1 and SR1a Patch . When you have those installed then you will be
able to get to SP2.

The order of install is

SP1, SR1, SR 1a**, SP2, SR2 ,SP3, SP4

**SR 1a includes SR1

In addition to what TaurArian[MVP] says, there is no such thing
as SP1, SR2, or SP4 for Office 2000.

SR-1 and SR-1a, yes. SP-1, no. Peter Foldes' "order of install"
suggests that there are seven service packs/releases available
for Office 2000, when there are actually only four (SR-1, SR-1a,
SP2, and SP3). Peter Foldes is saying that there is a Service
PACK 1 that is separate and distinct from Service RELEASE 1, and
a Service RELEASE 2 that is separate and distinct from Service
PACK 2. The point I am [apparently unsuccessful in] making is
that there was never a Service Pack 1 or a Service Release 2 for
Office 2000.

Thanks garfield-n-odie - we now have it all sorted out, the difference
between SP and SR and how many actual releases. It's been a long time since I
used Office 2000, I remember a 1 2 & 3 but did not take notice at the time if
it was a SP or SR.

There is SR-1a, (The Office 2000 SR-1a update includes the original
Office 2000 SR-1 update ) SP2 & SP3.

Agreed - there is no SP4 for Office 2000.
