Service Pack 3

Werner Stern

I have Office 2000 Prtemium installed and update to service pack 1a with no
problem. Then I need to update using service pack 3. It download ok then
when installing (with the cd in the drive) it shows as installation
unsuccessful. I tried this many times with no success.

What's the problem? I'm running Windows XP prof.

Any help appreciated.

Hi, Werner,

A couple of things to check:

Are you using the client only update (as opposed to the administrative
update)?

Have you already applied SP-2?

Have you checked the setup log file to see where it might be failing?

Hi,

I have installed sp2. It was not easy to find.

I don't know where to find the log you mention. It's not in the office
directory.

What is the difference between the client only or the administrative file. I
don't have users on my machine. Every one has administrative rights.

Thanks Susan. I finally got it om. I downloaded it directly and then ran it
from a temp directory. It worked fine.

There seems to be something wrong with the update route.
