Service pack can not find previous Office install

Daltman

I just rebuilt my powerbook the other day with a clean
install of Mac OS 10.3.5 and Office X.

I started having problems with Excel attachments not
opening up so I tried to install all of the service packs
that MS offers for Office X. none of them will install
and I get the same message every time. "The Office update
could not find a previous install of MS Office" and then
the only option is to browse or cancel. I can browse to
the office folder but it does not work.

I then tried to just delete the Office folder and start
from scratch. I then noticed that I could only install
the drag over copy and not the actual install.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior in MS Office
Version X?

Hi Daltman,

My suggestions to try (in this order):

Use Apple Disk Utility to Repair file permissions.
Use the uninstall utility on the Office CD to remove office.
Use the installer on the Office CD to install office.
Use Apple Disk Utility again to repair file permissions.
