Set CBO default in subform?

I have a CBO in a subform that will not allow me to set its default. I have
tried =[pending], [pending] etc and nothing works. All I want it to do is set
to pending if null.

Any ideas from the gurus out there?

Your brackets tells Access you want to use the data from an object named
pending.
Try using quotes like --
"Pending"
