set document to always reference http:// as source for graphic

I have a word document which contains several graphic
files from different internet sources. I have been
specifying the URLs as the sources of these graphics:
src="http://www.{website}.com/{filename}.gif"
However, every time I save the document in .doc format, MS
Word always saves the images along with the file.

I do not want to save the graphics as part of the .doc
file because the added graphics make the total file size
too large to be attached to an e-mail. I would prefer the
url be referenced as the file source.

I know this can be done easily in MS FrontPage, when
saving a .htm document. But can I also do this with a .doc
file saved in MS Word?

Jeffrey,

Go to one of the websites containing the image and right-
click it and select Properties. After the properties
dialog pops up, select and copy the Address (URL) of the
image and copy. Paste the URL into your document where you
want the reference to appear making sure you've got the
entire URL. Keep in mind that this method works for
references to static web pages. If the webpage changes,
the link will fail.

You can modify the way the link appears in your document
by right clicking the hyperlink, and editing the dialog
Text to display.
