Set hyperlink target to open in new tab?

Is there any way to utilize the new "Tabbed browsing"in internet explorer by
setting a hyperlink to open in a new tab, rather than in a new window?

I am using FP2002, and I'm having trouble getting the "_blank" or "open in
new window" command to work for some reason. I was in mid-battle...when it
suddenly dawned on me that opening in a new tab might be a better option
anyway!

Currently not possible for you to do on your web page - it's controlled by
the user when they click or right-click on the link. I believe that there's
has been some discussion about this the HTML5 Working Group at the W3C.
