Set Language in WORD 2003 (XP Pro)

Dave

Hi,
I thought I had this problem beat for some years, but of late NO.
It is simply to SET the language to En-Aust and for it to stop so set.
I have of late many times hit the language set in Word, marking Aus English
as the default, also in Windows utils from the Start/Office/Utils. Also here
I have often set / reset the language settings, but No something has a mind
of its own. I used to know the registry locations etc, but now I cannot
recall them.
I really would appreciate some assistance to permanently set Office language
settings to English - Australian.
Many thanks,
Dave

You should be able to resolve this by running Start, Microsoft Office,
Office Tools, Language Settings and uninstalling all unwanted languages
leaving just Eng (AUST) as the default. Then open Word and go to Tools,
Language, Set Language and clear the Automatically detect option (and make
sure that ENG AUS is selected), then press DEFAULT.

Close Word, reopen and make sure that the default is still set to ENG AUS.
Unfortunately, any previous document accidentally saved in a different
language will need to be reset, but all new documents should be in AUS now.

Terry, Thankyou for your reply.
However I believe I have done this procedure a number of times. When I open
Start/Office/Tools/Language, there is only Eng (Aust) set (enabled) and that
Language is also in the bottom panel as the default in Office. And ofcourse
I have waded into the settings in Word.
Of late I have noticed while correcting spelling that the language enabled
is Eng:US, this I then set it back to En:Aus, correct the spelling, then I
find with subsequent corrections, that WORD has reset itself to En:US.
Something is determined to set language to mostly all En:US. Some of the US
language is radically different to Aussie, so this is quite a problem to me.
Also to note is in Control/Region\Language, this is set to En:Aus,
location:Australia, extended text is turned: Off
Any further thoughts please??

Do you have any problems saving other Word defaults - such as changes to the
default page layout or default font or is this just the language?
